BS Contact J : Extensions : Walk Extension

Press shift key while dragging to speed up movement

This example extends BS Contact J's core functionality towards a simple walk navigation. This is achieved with a second applet which connects to and controls the BS Contact J render applet.

It implements three ways of navigation. The user is either able to click into the applet and drag the mouse to the desired direction or he can make use of the navigation buttons, placed at the bottom of the page. Moving the mouse pointer onto a direction button causes the avatar to go into the appropriate direction.

The same effect can be achieved with pressing the cursor keys while the applet has the focus. (click into the applet to give the applet the focus).

The walk applet's parameters:

  • collision - turns collision detection on or off
  • mindistance - an extra offset specifiing the minimum distance between viewer and world's objects
  • mindistance - the name of the BS Contact J instance which should be connected (here: "browser")
